ADVANCED U. S. HISTORY GRADING POLICY
The grading policy must be constructed as to reflect your commitment and effort. You could have taken a less challenging course and have the high grade that would easily have been achieved. Therefore this course must not undermine the system’s, and your own, measure of success – your grade.
Grading Protocol:
Tests will be 2/3 of their grade. Papers and any other activities will represent 1/3 of the grade.
Tests will consist of a multiple-choice section worth 80% of the test grade. The other 20% of the test grade will come from an essay section. Essay choices will be offered from which students will be allowed to select. Tests will be given at the conclusion of each unit.
Test grades will be based on a range of 70 – 100. The test grade will be pro-rated to a 90 – 100 scale so long as I am satisfied with the effort being presented. Failure to score at the base grade established for an exam, which is a 70, on 2 exams (they do not have to be consecutive) will result in the dropping of pro-rating. Pro-rating may be reinstated after a student has demonstrated sufficient effort and has scored higher than the base grade on 2 exams.

Multiple choice review questions are assigned with each unit. Their target grade is an 80. Failure to score an 80 or above on 2 review packets will result in the loss of their pro-rating. The process to regain pro-rating is the same as for exams.
